KCLS: Bringing library services to rural areas and small towns since 1943. |
Outreach is a vital part of library service.
Since its beginning in 1942, the King County Library System (KCLS) has been a leading link to information, bringing services to those who couldn't come to a library.
Quick to add new technologies in service delivery and in the KCLS Collection, the library system also has used developing technologies to document and promote the libraries' services to County residents.
Most regional residents are eligible to use all KCLS library services, and visitors are welcome to come to the libraries and read materials in the libraries. Those who regularly use the libraries are easy to reach with information about new resources, programs and services.
A bigger challenge for library communications is to promote libraries to new audiences who aren't aware of resources or don't know they're welcome here.
To reach broader audiences, KCLS uses a full array of communications tools, from marketing through flyers, newsletters and online access, to the full range of public relations and advertising.
The KCLS Media Gallery is a work in progress, offering a growing collection of media content, from archived photos of the earliest libraries to today's newest communications tools in audio and digital media.
